MD. Rafat Karim – Digital Accessibility and Technology Professional

WHO IS MD. RAFAT KARIM?

Who is MD. Rafat Karim?

MD. Rafat Karim is a Bangladesh-based digital accessibility and technology professional, a screen reader user, and a Government & Politics student at Jahangirnagar University. His work centers on digital accessibility testing, screen-reader-based computer operation, and building genuinely usable digital experiences for people who rely on assistive technology.

His technical foundation began in 2018 with Information Technology training and grew, year by year, into hands-on fluency with screen readers, computer operation for blind users, and eventually formal, professional-grade digital accessibility testing — including a three-day capacity-building programme with CBM & VIPS and the a2i (Aspire to Innovate) Accessibility Auditors programme. Alongside this, he built a parallel track in digital marketing and content marketing through structured courses with Skill.jobs & BBDN, JCI Dhaka, and other training organizations.

That combination of technical and marketing training has been tested competitively: Rafat achieved 1st position in a computer competition built around screen-reader use, and 3rd position in the National IT Competition organized by the Bangladesh Computer Council.

Beyond his individual training, Rafat is appointed as an ICT Trainer by the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) following a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PDF Jahangirnagar University, conducting specialized computer and mobile phone accessibility training (NVDA, JAWS, and Android TalkBack) for university students. He concurrently serves as the Communication and IT Secretary at the Physically-challenged Development Foundation (PDF), Jahangirnagar University Branch, where he supports member coordination, facilitates institutional partnerships, and has provided technical support for youth-led public campaigns, including online petition setup and outreach automation. His public advocacy work includes appearing in “Voice of Change,” a short film produced as part of the Youth-led SHIFT Voice of Change Campaign, and presenting on technological accessibility as a member of the blind community at a Global Accessibility Day 2026 event.

Looking ahead, Rafat is seeking to apply this combination of lived assistive-technology experience, accessibility testing training, and digital marketing skills in a professional environment — contributing to teams and products that take digital accessibility seriously from the start, not as an afterthought.
